Bargain Hunting at Waltermart Makati

I love love love rummaging through bargain stores. One never knows what (cheap) treasures one might find.

I was at Waltermart Makati over the weekend to watch a movie and realized that there not just one but 3 bargain stores there:

The Japan Home Center where everything’s P88...
The One Price Store where bargains can be made at P99....

And the American Bazaar where prices start at P66.

The best deal of the day?

This pedometer for just P88 at the JHC.

Perfect. Now I start my 10,000 Steps a Day Program. =)

Note: The pedometer is available only at JHC outlet at Waltermart. Just ask them to point the way to the “timers”. =)

Jan 17: Nike launches "CHALK" - Zoom LeBron VI

Nike Philippines is set to release a special colorway of the Zoom LeBron VI called "Chalk," inspired by LeBron's now famous pre-game ritual of tossing chalk in the air. Worn by LeBron James on Christmas Day, December 25, the shoe has a wood finish at the midsole inspired by the
hardwood floor in Quicken Loans Arena. Furthermore, the silhouette of his signature 'chalk pose' is featured in the tongue of the shoe while the overlay carries chalk graphic.

This special shoe will launch on January 17, 2009 at Nike Park Bonifacio High Street at exactly 12:30pm. The shoe retails at P7,495.

About the LeBron VI

The Zoom LeBron VI performance basketball shoe represents the essence of LeBron James: team, toughness, passion and vision. James worked with Nike designer Ken Link to create a shoe that meets his performance needs and the needs of players with a powerful, dynamic style of play. The Zoom LeBron VI not only has a full-length Zoom Air unit in the mid-sole for the ultimate responsive ride, but also has a Zoom Air unit double-stacked in the heel. The cushioning system helps the forefoot for transition when jumping. Deep sipes in the shoe allow for natural motion, which means the shoe works with the athlete's movement, rather than against it.

The shoe's collar has been engineered with a wider opening so it's easier to slip on and wear while maintaining a full-length fit feel. On the collar, graffiti art highlights LeBron's mantras-passion, family, winning, fearless and vision.

Breaking news: Palace OKs 10 long holidays in 2009

from ABS-CBN:

Last Christmas eve, Arroyo signed Proclamation 1699 that lays out the holiday schedule this year.

First on the holiday list is a three-day weekend before the Easter break.

The observance of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on April 9 (Thursday) was moved to the nearest Monday which is April 6.

This will be followed by the Easter holidays from April 9 (Maundy Thursday) until April 12 (Easter Sunday).

The other regular holidays are:
* Labor Day-May 1(Friday);
* Independence Day- June 12 (Friday);
* National Heroes Day- August 31 (Monday);
* Bonifacio Day - November 30 (Monday);
* Christmas Day- December 25 (Friday); and,
* Rizal Day- December 30 (Wednesday).

Arroyo declared the following as Special Non-Working Days:
* Ninoy Aquino Day - August 21 (Friday);
* All Saints Day - November 1 (Sunday) and All Soul's Day - November 2 (Monday);
* Christmas Eve - December 24 (Thursday); and,

Ten (10) Ways to make 2009 Amazingly Fantastic!

In coming up with my personal roadmap of the upcoming year, I made a list of ways I’m going to make 2009 a truly wonderful year.

1. Make Sensible Resolutions (and see them through!).
This year will be different. I will it to be so and so it will be. I’ll be using Chris Guillebeau’s template to develop and track my goals in a systematic manner.

2. Lose Weight Through Regular Exercise.
That much blogged about picture of Barack Obama serves as an inspiration. With his busy schedule, if he can fit in an hour each morning for a workout, then certainly so can I. I just learned that not only can the exercise-induced release of endorphins can do wonders to one’s psyche, it also promotes neurogenesis, literally making you smarter! I aim be thinner, happier and smarter by the end of 2009.

3. Think Happy Thoughts.
“It is easy to be heavy: hard to be light.” G. K. Chesterton
Are you more like Eeyore than Tigger? I would have to admit that I’m more of a mix of Eeyore and Piglet: a panicking pessimist. Yikes. Studies have shown that an optimistic mindset correlates strongly with self-esteem, psychological well-being and physical and mental health. For 2009, I resolve not to sweat the small stuff. Hmmm. Better said than done. Check out The Happiness Project of Gretchen Rubin to help get you started.

4. Give up a vice.
Vanity, Greed, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Envy, Laziness. Alcohol, Cigarettes, Shopping. The list goes on. In keeping with my determination to live a healthier lifestyle, I resolve to give up Gluttony. So keep that foie gras, Elar’s lechon and (red) Chippy away from me. =) For a more exhaustive list, check out this Wiki link.

5. Travel Here and Abroad.
I want to visit places where I’ve never been. Vigan and Vietnam, get ready.

6. Sign Up for Something. Anything.
The best way to overcome passivity is to enroll in a class. I aced the embroidery/crochet sessions during Grade School Home Ec but promptly forget these skills during High School. I envy those who know how to create intricate bedspreads, glass covers and wraps. In the 1st quarter of 2009, I resolve to enroll in the crochet / knitting classes offered by that craft store (name escapes me at the moment) in Glorietta or Megamall. Heck, if Gwnyth Paltrow can knit and purl and so can I.

7. Go outside the comfort zone. Learn to Cook.
I hate to admit it but I have shelves full of cook books & magazines but have yet to cook anything more complex than adobo. This year, I resolve to learn how to roast and bake. As proof, friends and family will getting home cooked goodies for Christmas. Promise.

8. Break free from personal debt.
Ok. Don’t panic. Don’t panic. It’s only a VISA bill. It’s a piece of paper; a few numbers. I mean, just how scary can a few numbers be? Confessions of a Shopaholic, Sophie Kinsella
Debt = slavery. Just because an item is on sale is not license to compromise my overall financial position. Self sufficiency is a goal well worth our time and effect. Nuff said.

9. Avoid Buyer’s Remorse: Be a Smart Shopper
A well meaning friend recently told me: “You’re such a hoarder! Stop buying crap!” Guilty. My closet is full of ill-fitting clothes bought on a whim and knick-knacks which looked cute in the store but have no place in my home. For 2009, I will be a smart shopper, searching for bargain deals on specific items identified as needs, not wants. And no, I won’t be another Becky Bloomwood.

And last but most importantly…

10. Spend more quality time with friends and family.
There are so many things and activities competing for our attention. There’s the TV, the latest movie, Wii, the internet. The list is endless. If there is anything I realized from this Christmas, it was that my son was happiest spending time with us and his cousins. The toys were just gravy to an already flavorful meal. So for the upcoming year, I resolve to spend less time in front of the boob-tube and more time climbing walls, ice-skating, bowling, reading out loud.

Well, there they are. My top 10 list of ways I will make 2009 memorable and light (on the pocket)! If you come up with your own list, please consider posting them. =)
