I love it when companies show celebrate key milestones not through splashy parties but rather, by giving back to the community. Some build villages, others like George Optical, find a way to tie their business with corporate social responsibility.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, George Optical has launched its its G.O. Green Campaign—a project intending to instill in the general public further awareness on the concept of environmental preservation through recycling.
The G.O. Green Campaign, which officially kicked off last April 1, 2010, encourages eyeglass wearers to support the environment and aid the less fortunate by helping recycle old frames. These will in turn benefit the Missionaries of Charity (Home of Joy), the charity patients of the Ophthalmology Division of the Cardinal Santos Medical Center, Ophthalmology Division of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital, and UNTV.
Customers can drop off their old frames (no purchase required) at any George Optical branch, where they will also be recycled for the use of the George Co Sr. Foundation. The Foundation will also cover the costs of the lens and actual repairs.
For the month of April, participating customers get a 5% discount on ophthalmic lenses purchased on top of existing discounts (except for OptimEYES discounts). Members of OptimEYES, however, get a free George Optical Eco Shirt instead of the price reduction. Donations will be accepted until December.
